The Battle of Long Tan

The newly arrived 1st Australian Task Force established its Phuoc Tuy operations base in 1966 at Nui Dat, a piece of high ground surrounded by rubber plantations.

The Viet Cong had achieved dominion in the province and decided to inflict a politically unacceptable defeat on the Australians. Their plan was to lure the Australians from their base by firing recoilless rifle and mortar shells into it. They theorised that the Australians would sweep the area around the base in an attempt to stop the attacks, and the Viet Cong would ambush the sweeping forces.

i will have my dads medals on and i will be marching with pride....my dad never missed an anzac day never and i was always at his side on the day....i love my brave soldier and im sure he will still be at my side on the day..rest in peace to all the soldiers who have lost their lives in war and after war......we must reflect on these days and realise war is not the way to go..peace and only peace is the answer.

I am new here. Thanks for taking me under your wings. I am trying to live life on a new level with knowing about all our health issues as a result because as we say in the South, I have sure had some humdingers of issues. I am glad there is a place for us to link and share. One of my interesting issues is poison ivy. I will catch it and break out like crazy and never see it anywhere. It will be on my face or wherever. I am beginning to wonder if it could be something else, but a steriod fixes it. That is just a beginning. I won't bore anyone with all the details of everything.

just missing my dad.....wish he was here,really need him sometimes.."sigh"

We have an "all-volunteer" Army, right? Wrong! Anything but...over 50% of 
our forces in Iraq and Afghanistan had NO plan to be in the military 
full-time. Much less serving multiple-tours in the Middle East. Hardly a 
"volunteer Army".

 I am new here.. Not sure if this is the right spot on the page to post??? My dad was in Vietnam in 1968. He has PTSD and was given 100% disability related to the war.. He was shot several times and has some other medical issues related to Agent Orange.
